Augsburg's Core Values

------

We embrace sacramental identity.

We pray for and care for God’s people.

We promote and encourage faith formation

and Christian education throughout life.

We celebrate innovation and evolution in our faith community

that is not at the expense of our other core values and is not done solely for the sake of change.

We strongly believe in lay ministry and high engagement.

Discipleship and fellowship are important to us.

We will be inclusive in our ministry, growth, and outreach.

As Christian disciples, we follow Jesus. Together, we strive to share the good news of his life, death, and resurrection

through all we do as a congregation. We look forward to sharing about Augsburg’s ministries with you.

As Lutherans, our beliefs are centered on God’s grace.

“For by grace you have been saved through faith, and this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God — not the result of works, so that no one may boast.”  - Ephesians 2:8

The distinction is that we can do nothing to earn or unearn salvation. Forgiveness is God’s gift to humanity. Because we are loved by God, we feel called to love our neighbors.

Martin Luther actually disliked the term “Lutherans” because he did not want to be the center of the Reformation. Luther preferred the term, “Evangelicals” (which had a different connotation than it does today) because it comes from the word, “evangelion” which means “the gospel” or “the good news”.

The Sacraments of the Lutheran Church

As Lutherans, we observe two sacraments: Baptism and Holy Communion.

We baptize infants and adults. A Lutheran baptism is “grace based” rather than “faith based”. For infants, parents and sponsors promise to raise the child among God’s faithful people.

Every Sunday, we practice open communion for any adult and child. We offer first communion classes and practice the rite of Confirmation for youth. Confirmation classes are held during the Spring for sixth, seventh, and eighth grade students. The classes are taught by a combination of pastors, staff, and lay teachers. We also offer Sunday School classes for people of all ages and various Bible studies.
